Tetrabutylammonium bromide is used as a phase transfer catalyst in organic chemistry for the synthesis of drug intermediates such as benzyltriethylammonium chloride, ethyl cinnamate, and pseudoionone. It is also used in the synthesis of organic drugs such as anti-infective drugs bacampicillin and sultamicillin. Tetrabutylammonium bromide is also used as a catalyst in the synthesis of anti-diabetic drugs such as dapagliflozin with a new mechanism of action.
