Product Application of Clavulanic acid CAS#58001-44-8
It is a β-lactamase inhibitor. It has only weak antibacterial activity itself, but it has an inhibitory effect on β-lactamase produced by staphylococci and most Gram-negative bacteria. It firmly binds to β-lactamase to form an irreversible conjugate, which makes the enzyme inactive. Therefore, when used in combination with β-lactam antibiotics, it can protect the combined β-lactam antibiotics from being destroyed by β-lactamase, enhance the antibacterial effect of the antibiotics, expand its antibacterial spectrum, and overcome the drug resistance of pathogenic microorganisms. Its application is to make a complex with other antibiotics, such as when it is combined with amoxicillin, it is called Augmentin; when it is combined with ticarcillin, it is called Timentin.
