Products Description of Tetramethylammonium hydroxide CAS#75-59-2
Tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH), also known as tetramethylammonium hydroxide, is a colorless to light yellow liquid. It is the strongest organic base, very easy to absorb moisture, has a certain ammonia smell, can quickly absorb carbon dioxide in the air, has a low vapor pressure at room temperature, and is completely decomposed and gasified at 135~145°C. High-purity products are treated at 140°C without trace residue. The tetramethylammonium hydroxide solution is colorless, transparent, and has a slight ammonia smell. The pH value of 1 (wt)% solution is 12.9, which is a strong base with the same strength as caustic alkali. Concentrating the tetramethylammonium hydroxide aqueous solution under reduced pressure can obtain hygroscopic needle-shaped crystals with 5 crystal waters, and then continuing to concentrate and dehydrate to become crystals with 3 crystal waters, and then to become tetramethylammonium hydroxide with 1 crystal water. It decomposes into trimethylamine and dimethyl ether at 135-140°C, usually making 10% and 25% aqueous solutions.

Product Application of Tetramethylammonium hydroxide CAS#75-59-2
In the field of organosilicon, it is used as a catalyst for dimethyl silicone oil, benzyl silicone oil, organosilicon diffusion pump oil, solvent-free silicone molding plastics, organosilicon resin silicone rubber, etc. In terms of analysis, it is used as a polarographic reagent, and in product purification, it is used as an ash-free base to precipitate many metal elements. In the production of organosilicon wafers, it is often used as a brightener, cleaning agent and etching agent for computer silicon wafers. This product is a catalyst in organosilicon polymerization. Its advantages are: it has strong alkalinity and is stable at temperatures not exceeding the decomposition point. When the decomposition point is exceeded, it quickly decomposes into trimethylamine and methanol. When the catalysis is completed, it is easy to remove without leaving any residue. It does not pollute organosilicon products. Therefore, it is also called a "temporary catalyst". In analysis, it can be used for polarographic tests and to precipitate hydrides of many elements that do not contain ash.
