Products Description of NEODYMIUM NITRATE HEXAHYDRATE CAS#16454-60-7

The chemical formula of neodymium nitrate is Nd(NO3)3·6H2O. The molecular weight is 438.35. There are two variants, α and β, with a transition temperature of about 22°C. It is easily soluble in water and ethanol. It forms anhydrous salts by vacuum dehydration and decomposes by strong heat. It is easy to form complex salts with other nitrates.

For example: 3Mg(NO3)2·2Nd(NO3)3·24H2O, 3Mn(NO3)2·2Nd(NO3)3·24H2O, 3Ni(NO3)2·2Nd(NO3)3·24H2O, etc. The neodymium nitrate solution is an acidic aqueous solution with a purple-red color. Due to the high acidity of the solution, it reacts violently with carbonate raw materials and increases the erosion of refractory materials.

Therefore, it is not suitable to be directly mixed into the batch material and must be mixed with sodium carbonate in advance. As a glass colorant, neodymium nitrate solution has no special requirements for the melting of glass. As the amount introduced increases, it changes from light blue to blue-purple (observed under fluorescent light), and turns blue-purple red under sunlight, also known as rose red. Introducing a small amount of selenium powder to increase the red hue of the glass, especially at night, can make up for the weakening of the red hue of neodymium glass and maintain the beautiful purple-red color. At the same time, it can reduce the amount of Nd2O3, thereby achieving the purpose of reducing the cost of glass. Experiments have shown that using neodymium nitrate solution as a raw material for glass colorants is feasible in terms of technology through premixing with soda ash, and the raw material cost is low, with certain economic benefits.
