Products Description of Copper (II) Nitrate Hydrate CAS#10031-43-3
Copper nitrate trihydrate is a white powder, easy to deliquesce, easily soluble in water, with a solubility of 45g at 0℃. It can be reprecipitated by adding concentrated nitric acid. It decomposes into nitrogen oxides and copper oxide when red hot, and is decomposed by hydrochloric acid. Common hydrates are hexahydrate Cu(NO3)2·6H2O and trihydrate Cu(NO3)2·3H2O. The former is a blue crystal with a relative density of 2.074. It loses three molecules of crystal water at a temperature of 26.4℃ to form a trihydrate, and decomposes to form a basic salt at 65℃. The latter is a dark blue triangular prism crystal with a molecular weight of 241.60, a melting point of 114.5℃, a blue columnar crystal, and a density of 2.32g/cm3. It is easily soluble in water and ethanol, the concentrated solution is green, the dilute solution is light blue, and it is easy to deliquesce. It dissolves in its crystal water at 114.5℃, loses nitric acid when heated to 170℃ to form basic copper nitrate, and decomposes to copper oxide when heated to 200℃. It is oxidizing and is easy to explode or burn when mixed with carbon, sulfur and other substances. It is used for copper plating, making pesticides, enamel and dyes, etc. It is soluble in medium concentration nitric acid. Copper nitrate can be prepared by reacting copper oxide or copper blocks with dilute nitric acid.
