Chromium trioxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CrO3. It is a dark red or dark purple crystalline powder. It is soluble in water, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, ethanol, ether, acetic acid, and acetone. It is mainly used in electroplating industry, pharmaceutical industry, printing industry, tanning and fabric mordant dyeing.

On October 27, 2017, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer published a preliminary list of carcinogens for reference. Chromium (6) compounds are on the list of Class 1 carcinogens.

Chromium trioxide is mainly used in the electroplating industry as a raw material for electroplating chromium on bicycles, sewing machines, watches, instruments, flashlights, daily hardware, etc. It is also used to make high-purity metallic chromium. It is the raw material for making chromium oxide green and zinc chrome yellow; it is also the raw material for producing low-temperature shift catalysts, high-temperature shift catalysts and high-pressure methanol synthesis catalysts. It is used as a mordant when dyeing wool fabrics and as an oxidant in the printing and dyeing industry. In addition, it is also used for wood antiseptic.
