3. Use and Manufacturing
3.1 General Description
White crystals. Ignite easily and burn readily. May detonate under strong shock. Decomposes when heated, evolving toxic gases. Toxic by skin absorption, inhalation or ingestion.
3.2 Produe Method
Bronopol is synthesized by the reaction of nitromethane withparaformaldehyde in an alkaline environment, followed bybromination. After crystallization, bronopol powder may be milledto produce a powder of the required fineness.
3.3 Usage
bactericide; in seed treatment for control of Xanthomonas malvacearum; as a foliar spray for control of a wide range of plantpathogenicbacteria (especially Erwinia amylovora); in antiseptics and as a preservative in cosmetics, cooling fluids, hand and facecreams, shampoos, hair dressings, mascaras, cleansing lotions, milk sampling, paints, textiles, humidifiers, pharmaceutical products,washing detergents.
